Have you just arrived in the Faroe Islands or are you new to the Faroese language? Or do you already understand some Faroese and want to improve your skills?

No matter how long you’ve been in the Faroe Islands or how far you’ve come with your Faroese skills, you are welcome to join the Faroese as a Second Language (FSA) courses.

FSA consists of language classes for adult newcomers whose first language is not Faroese. The main focus is to learn the Faroese language and gain insight into Faroese culture and society.

Course structure

The structure and intensity of the courses may vary depending on where you choose to attend the courses. Courses are usually one semester (approximately 15 weeks). Classes are offered in the daytime and in the evening. Classes are usually 2 – 5 days per week depending on the location and type of course you choose to attend.

The number of courses needed to reach your desired proficiency varies depending on your level to begin with and the intensity of the course.

Price: The courses are free of charge, but participants are responsible for covering the cost of course materials.

Application deadline is May 1st 2026.

Visitations: Held after the application period (If you have already passed a level in FSA, you do not need to attend visitation).
